Since November 1, the payment service Yandex Money and eight Russian banks have connected to the contactless payment system Apple Pay, BBC reports quoting mass media and representatives of credit institutions.
Apple Pay services are currently available to the clients of Alfa-Bank, MTS Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, VTB 24, Tinkoff Bank, Otkritie Bank, Binbank and Saint-Petersburg Bank.
The mobile payment system Apple Pay was introduced in September 2014. Using it, the owners of Apple smartphones (starting from iPhone 6 models), iPad Pro tablets and Apple Watch watches can pay for the goods and services.
The payment is made through NFC technology; the money is debited from clients’ bank cards, attached to the application. In the meantime, the card number itself is saved neither on the smartphone, nor on Apple servers.
In Russia, Apple Pay service appeared in October 2016, Sberbank became the first partner of the system. Now only MasterCard cards may be attached to the service.
In late September, South Korean Corporation Samsung, the Apple’s main rival, launched its payment service in Russia.
