Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič said that it is time for the next round of trilateral negotiations on gas supplies with participation of Russia and Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reports quoting Sefcovic’s statement, European Truth reports.
“The constructive and stable cooperation between Russia and Ukraine in energy field is of paramount importance for the European Union. In this context, I always emphasized the necessity of continuing the long-term transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to EU in the reliable and commercially viable way; that is why I appealed to Ukrainian and Russian partners and invited them for trilateral negotiations, which turned out to be effective for achieving tangible and successful results in the past”, Vice President of EC stated.
According to his words, the negotiations, supported by EU member countries, “should start as soon as possible to discuss the gas issues, important for stakeholders, and deal with its transit through Ukraine after 2019”.
